Meet Jay Trumbower

"The UST MBA program had a reputation for hiring people from the workplace to teach the classes. This was important, as these people gave us real working war stories to supplement the book learning."

Obtaining an M.B.A. was an educational goal of mine; it seemed necessary in the workplace if I wanted to advance my career in accounting or finance. When I began the Evening UST MBA program, I was a senior analyst at a bank holding company. Today, I am responsible for corporate development at Dolan Media Company.

I originally chose St. Thomas because I worked downtown and it was convenient. Also, the UST MBA program had a reputation for hiring people from the workplace to teach the classes. This was important, as these people gave us real working war stories to supplement the book learning. I wasn’t disappointed by my experience: there was a lot of teamwork among students – even in finance classes – and the teachers were excellent.

The MBA broadened my skill set. I moved from an accounting mindset to having a more well-rounded strategic management approach.  The capstone (strategic management) course was very interesting and I use all the strategic planning and analysis skills in my current position.
