Maruggi wins Distinguished Educator Award; Alan Sickbert wins William
B. Malevich Award
In
a vote by students, Matt Maruggi, program director of the Tutor-Mentor
Program, won the 2002 Distinguished Educator Award, and Dr. Alan
Sickbert, interim director of the Center for Student Leadership,
Activities and Living, won this year's William B. Malevich Award.
In
the nominating essay submitted by a student, Maruggi was described
as "a very inspirational educator who genuinely cares about
all of his students." He offers a "type of service
learning" through his involvement in the Tutor-Mentor program
and "provides his students with an opportunity to learn in
ways that cannot be taught in the classroom."
Sickbert's
"tireless dedication to the students of St. Thomas" was
mentioned in the student essay for his William B. Malevich Award
nomination. He was described as "an asset to the community
of St. Thomas in countless ways for the past 15 years."
Sickbert has served in numerous capacities that have ranged from
adviser of Omicron Delta Kappa and All College Council, to Dean
of Students and interim director of the Center for Student Leadership,
Activities and Living.
All
College Council sponsors the Distinguished Educator Award and the
William B. Malevich Award.
