Tommie-Johnnie football is not the only game in town this weekend. The four races of the Twin Cities Marathon also will be held, resulting in severely restricted movement in St. Paul along the Summit Avenue corridor.
Saturday, Oct. 1
Both a 5K and a 10K race will be run on Saturday, Oct. 1, from near the State Capitol.
The 10K will go to the south past the St. Paul Cathedral and west on Summit Avenue to just past Hamline Avenue and then return to the Capitol on Summit. The 10K begins at 7:30 a.m. The 5K begins at 9 a.m. and follows the same route but goes only to Dale Avenue.
Access going to the north or to the south of Summit is limited during these races.
Sunday, Oct. 2
The Twin Cities Marathon 10 Mile and the full-distance Twin Cities Marathon (26.2 miles) will be run on Sunday, Oct. 2. Both races traverse through Minneapolis and into St. Paul down Summit to the Capitol. The races begin at 7:09 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis.
These two races divide St. Paul in half along Summit, and access going to the north or to the south of Summit is severely limited. Parking will not be permitted along the race route, including the area from Mississippi River Boulevard to Cretin Avenue to Summit. The city of St. Paul may tag and tow vehicles found in violation of the parking restrictions.
The streets around St. Thomas will be open about 2 p.m.
Plan accordingly
Public Safety advises motorists to plan accordingly and expect traffic delays during these events. Marshall Avenue in St. Paul and Lake Street in Minneapolis will remain open during the races. More information about the races and maps can be obtained on the Twin Cities Marathon website.
A list of course crossings and road closures can be viewed here.
Good luck!
And finally, good luck to all of the runners from the St. Thomas community who will be running in the races. The campus will be cheering for you as you pass St. Thomas.
