Campus Mail Services will begin closing student mail boxes on Monday, May 24. With more than 5,000 mailboxes to close, this process will take several days. Mail Boxes will reopen the last week of August.
Forwardable mail will be sent automatically to students’ permanent addresses. Students may choose an alternate address by filling out a pink forwarding card. Forwarding cards are available at Campus Mail Services (the Post Office window), lower level, Murray-Herrick Campus Center. Forwardable mail is that which arrives as first class, first class pre-sort, express, priority mail or paid magazine subscriptions.
Campus Mail Services is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Students may submit a request to keep their mail boxes open for the summer by signing up at the stamp sales window. Students are advised to sign up before May 24 to avoid misdirected mail. Those who choose to keep their mail boxes open for the summer should pick up their mail weekly. Closed mail boxes will reopen the last week of August for fall semester.
Graduated seniors may elect to keep their mailboxes open until mid-July.
Students going abroad for fall should make arrangements with Campus Mail Services to tag and close their mail boxes prior to leaving. Forwardable mail will be sent to students’ permanent domestic addresses.
Faculty and staff are reminded that distribution to mail boxes should be kept to a minimum a week before mail boxes close. Intercampus mail from closed mail boxes will be returned to the originating department if it can be determined.
Faculty and staff are advised to ask students to provide stamped, self-addressed envelopes for final papers and binders. Campus Mail Service can help students determine proper postage for these pieces.
UPS, Federal Express, Speedy and DHL are delivery services that Campus Mail Service cannot forward. If students receive packages from these services after their mail boxes have closed, Campus Mail Service will notify students by e-mail and hold the packages for pickup.
