Seminars are held on Fridays at 3:15 pm in OSS 313.  Join us for snacks and conversation with the speaker after the seminar!

Feb 8:   Dr. Doug Johnson, Research Statistician & Senior Scientist, Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center

Topic: "The ecology of grasslands and the forces that shape their bird communities."

Feb 22:  Matt Gorman, Mitch Haustein, Melissa Konsti, and Dr. Kyle Zimmer, UST

Topic: Silly stories about shallow lakes.

March 7 Dr. Betsy Martinez-Vaz, Assistant Professor, Hamline University Biology Department

Topic: Microbial genomics, environmental microbiology, microbial genetics and molecular biology, bacterial pathogenesis.

March 28: Dr. Beverly Smith-Keiling, Assistant Professor, Augsburg College Biology Department

Topic: "The search for streptococcal C3-binding proteins through undergraduate research projects and changing paradigms in research."

April 11 Dr. Marla Spivak, Professor, University of Minnesota Department of Entomology

Topic: Neuroethological mechanisms underlying hygienic behavior: Bees that perform the behavior are particularly responsive to olfactory signals from diseased and parasitized brood, which may be mediated by sensitizing effects of particular biogenic amines in the bee brain.

May 2 Dr. M. Reza Ghadiri, Professor, Scripps Research Institute (Merck seminar)

Topic: Our group is involved in a multidisciplinary research effort that uses disciplines ranging from synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry to materials science and recombinant DNA technology to develop novel methods for the rational design and construction of functional biomaterial-based structures. Our goal is to provide novel applications in the field of molecular and system engineering as well as advance our fundamental understanding of living chemical processes.

April 25: Open, will be filled by Tri Beta selection.
