The University of St. Thomas

Entering students interested in this major should inform Academic Counseling. Students are advised to begin their introductory biology, chemistry, and mathematics coursework in their freshman year. The biochemistry committee will coordinate advising. Students should talk with an adviser as soon as possible following their freshman year in order to select the elective courses that will be most appropriate to their interests.

Students majoring in Biochemistry take a core set of courses in biology, chemistry, math and physics through their junior year. Advanced topics in biology and chemistry electives are available for the students to choose in order to complete their degree.  There is also a seminar series (BCHM 301-03), beginning in the junior year that engages students in current scientific issues through analysis of the primary literature and interaction with invited guest speakers.
