Aquinas Fellow

Year at UST: Senior
Major: Catholic Studies and Philosophy
Minor: Greek and Political Science
Hometown: South Haven, MN

Why did you come to UST?
I came to St. Thomas because I became convinced that  this was the place I could grow most as a Catholic man, intellectually, morally and spiritually.

What does it mean to you to be selected as an Aquinas Fellow?
It is a great honor to have been selected as an Aquinas fellow.

What has been your most valuable experience at UST?
My time spent at St. John Vianney Seminary has undoubtedly been my most valuable experience at St. Thomas. There is no experience during my entire lifetime that has impacted me more than my two years spent there. Here I grew and was formed as a Catholic man and was surrounded by many of the best men I have ever known.

How will being an Aquinas Fellow help you discern and work towards your vocation?
Amidst the workings of everyday life, it is easy to become inattentive to the truth that we in fact have a vocation. As an Aquinas Fellow, I will be persistently reminded of this truth that what I am doing now is part of a mission to which Christ invites me. Amidst the drudgery of study or the simplicity of normal life, to fulfill our duties well, out of love for Christ, is in fact to fulfill our respective vocations.

What advice would you give a student about discerning their vocation?
To find silence each day is central to discerning a vocation. Our God typically works in us in quiet, often imperceptible ways. It is only when we take time in silence each day to listen to Him that we are bale to discern what it is that He has for our future.
