Access and Use of the Visual Resources Library

Access

The Visual Resources Library is a digital-only collection. Images are available through Luna, the department's image database. Faculty, adjuncts, staff, and students have access to digital images through the web-version of Luna. Patrons must login with their UST ID in order to access the UST Art History Collection and a range of other image collections. The UST Art Collection and the American Museum of Asmat Art @UST Collection are freely available for viewing to any interested person. Please contact the curator with any questions or problems.

Most of the images in the Visual Resources Library are copyright protected. Library patrons are expected to follow both the 1976 Copyright Act as amended and the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act. In general fair use under copyright law allows images to be used for educational purposes, but not for publication. The patron assumes liability for any infringement of copyright laws.

To use the equipment available in the Visual Resources Library, patrons (students, faculty, and staff) are required to meet with the Visual Resources Curator (Christy Dent): cldent@stthomas.edu or 651-962-5562.

The Visual Resources Library has two flatbed scanners. These scanners are used to scan items for the digital collection. Faculty may request items to be scanned for instructional purposes by using the scanning request form. Art history students may make arrangements to use a scanner to scan images for class presentations by contacting the curator.

Food and Beverages

No food allowed in the Visual Resources Library.

There have been problems with insects (particularly ants) and pests (such as mice) because the collection is housed in the basement of the art history house. In order to reduce the infiltration of unwanted pests, no food is allowed near the physical Visual Resources collection or computers.

Beverages are allowed if they are in an unbreakable, spill-proof container with a lid.

Heaters

Employees and researchers are welcome to use the space heaters while working in the visual resources library. Please turn off the heaters before leaving if no other patrons are present.

Lights

Lights are kept turned off unless someone is working in the Visual Resources Library. Please turn the lights off when leaving, unless other patrons remain in the library
