One of the most rewarding components of an Art History major can be an internship at a local museum or arts organization. Internships can be undertaken for credit (2 or 4 credits) or for enrichment. While some internships require a time commitment of 20 hours/week or more, others are more flexible and may require as little as 5 hours/week.
Some of the institutions at which our students have interned include the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the Minnesota Historical Society, HECUA (Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs), and the Minnesota Museum of American Art. There are numerous on-going local and national internship programs. Each program has its own criteria and application deadline; detailed information on a particular internship can often be accessed through the institution's website.
Majors and minors are eligible to apply for employment as paid student assistants in the Visual Resource Center, Asmat Museum of American Art and Exhibition Program. Please contact Susan Focke at 651-962-5560.
