Application Deadline
Degree admission: March 1

Non-degree-seeking students

You may begin the Master of Arts degree in Art History as a nondegree student. This option may interest prospective students whose schedules do not work with the timing of the March application deadline or the September beginning of coursework. Enrolling in one or more courses with nondegree status can also provide contact with faculty members, an opportunity to develop a writing sample for the degree application, and a chance to evaluate whether the program's offerings match your needs, interests, and abilities. The following are admission criteria for nondegree students:

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university verified by an official transcript.
  • Completed application form (see application, available above, for details)
  • A non-refundable $50 application fee
Make check payable to the Art History Department, University of St. Thomas.
  • Optional: We strongly suggest that you submit at least one letter of recommendation.

Changing from nondegree status to degree-seeking status

Nondegree students may apply for degree-seeking status at the regular admissions deadline by submitting all required application materials. Letters of recommendation solicited from faculty in the program are allowable. Up to four courses taken as a nondegree student may be applied for credit towards the degree.

Nondegree Admission Deadlines:
Fall semester - Aug. 15
Spring semester - Jan. 15
Summer session - May 1

International Applicants

Nonresidents of the United States are encouraged to plan well in advance of the application deadlines. A separate international student application is required in addition to regular application, and may be obtained by request from the Art History graduate office.
