Graduate Art History

We are pleased to educate the next generation of art historians by offering a wide range of courses reflecting the varied interests of our faculty. Faculty members in the Art History department take pride in collaboration with our students and many conference papers, journal articles, and research grants have emerged from these partnerships. Our program offers a flexible plan of study - seven electives and four required courses allow each student to the opportunity to gain mastery of a core concepts, while also providing the flexibility to explore new areas of interest in advance of writing a qualifying paper. Our students report that they find the quality of their education to be high, their colleagues to be diligent and focused, and the Twin Cities to be an engaged arts community. Our students’ contributions to the profession have been outstanding, and many have found positions as adjunct faculty, Ph.D. candidates, and curators.
