The Journey Beyond the Arches: Photographs Taken by UST Students Studying Abroad

Over 1000 St. Thomas students annually spend some of their time at UST studying abroad. They document their memories in photographs which can be entered into an annual photography contest for categories of  A Sense of Place and Intercultural Experience. This exhibition illustrates some of the award winning photos from 2008 - 2011. An assortment of past winners may be seen in Coffee Bene, main floor of The O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library Center. This picture was taken from the streets of Venice. We later rode these gondolas through the river and explored Venice by water.

The loudness and impatience of this Indian street, makes one lose sight of the intolerable heat. It's chaotic to watch, but you'll never fully understand, until you're riding in the back of a rickshaw in this land. Holding on for dear life with eyes wide as can be, praying you won't hit a stray cow or a monkey. But in all this bedlam, you can't help but realize, this mess is the beauty of India in disguise.
