Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay

Ceramic exhibit of works by master potter Richard Bresnahan and 4 of his former apprentices will be on display Sept. 14, 2012-January 10, 2013. Dr. Matthew Welch will present a lecture on Oct. 4th followed by a reception in the gallery.

The exhibit will be on display in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center lobby gallery. Dr. Matthew Welch,, Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Minneapolis Institute of Arts will present a lecture, Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay,  at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, October 4th in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium.

Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay is one of the stops on the Annual College Art Gallery Collaborative Fall Art Tour. This guided tour provides free buses, six different art exhibitions, food and music. The tour is from 1-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6th. A bike option is also available on the tour.   • Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay highlights the ceramic creations of Richard Bresnahan and four of his former apprentices, and represents a decade of collaborative effort with the Saint John's Pottery program. Curated by Dr. Matthew Welch, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the exhibit features not only the work of master potter and artist in residence, Richard Bresnahn, but that of Kevin Flicker, Stephen Earp, Samuel Johnson and Anne Meyer. The University of St. Thomas is the 6th stop on this national tour which is coming from The Art Complex Museum in Duxbury, MA and will be going to the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, MI after it closes at UST.          
  • The opening reception, Thursday, October 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the O'Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium will feature a lecture by Dr. Matthew Welch, curator of the exhibition. A reception will follow the lecture in the lobby gallery. Following the lecture, Dr. Welch will be signing copies of the catalog he wrote, Stoked: Five Artists of Fire and Clay, which celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Saint John's Pottery.

    Dr. Matthew Welch's lecture and the reception are co-sponsored by University of St. Thomas Alumni and Constituent Relations. RSVPs aren't required but appreciated.

    Anne Meyer will present a Feminist Friday lecture at the Luann Dummer Center for Women on Nov. 2nd. Anne will talk about her experience transitioning from learning through and working for others to finding her own voice as an artist and working for herself. She will discuss the different forms of mentorshiop she has benefited from and share how these experiences influence her work today.
