Building the Collection: Recent Gifts and Purchases

09-04-2012 to 12-21-2012

This exhibition celebrates works donated to or purchased by the American Museum of Asmat Art since the collection arrived at the University of St. Thomas in 2007. Up through 2011, the permanent collection has grown from 1415 works to 1678. An additional 402 pieces are currently being processed. Expanding the collection contributes to its depth and offers more opportunities to understand cultural issues connected to changing imagery, techniques, and materials. Fiber art by established artists including Beata Atakat and Sabina Tocinyap are included as well as works by up-and-coming artist Jocita Kayoa.

The AMAA invites you to enjoy Christmas cookies and cocoa along with Christmas carols from 1-3 p.m., Friday, December 7th in The Gallery. This is a perfect opportunity to visit the exhibit, Building the Collection: Recent Gift and Purchases, before it closes on December 21st. The Gallery is located on the 2nd floor of the Anderson Student Center.
