Why choose UST? Many schools offer a few good reasons, but at St. Thomas you’ll find your perfect ten.

College is one of the most valuable and important investments you will make in your life, and St. Thomas is ready to invest in you. More than 90 percent of our students receive institutional merit-based gift aid directly from St. Thomas and we provide a personal financial aid counselor who is here to assist you.

At many universities, being part of scientific research and discovery is reserved for grad students. Not here. At UST you don’t have to wait to graduate before you can participate; even as an undergraduate you’ll have the chance to work on important research with UST faculty.

Personal attention

The ideal size of St. Thomas balances the resources of a large university, like world-class faculty with the benefits of a small college, like the fact that every class is personally taught by exceptional faculty. No teaching assistants here. The average class size is 21 and we have a student-to-faculty ratio of 15:1.

Clubs and activities

UST puts a whole lot of “live” into “live and learn.” There are more than 150 student-run clubs and organizations, and the ideal size of St. Thomas means you can play a meaningful role or even start your own group. You will find amazing opportunities to be involved in student government, student-produced media and much more.

Internships and Jobs

St. Thomas works hard to make its students ready for the real world. Last year 56% of graduating seniors had internships, most within five miles of campus.  Our Career Development Center provides individual services to students such as one-on-one appointments, career assessments and inventories, mock interviews, seminars and workshops, and recruiting events.  And 95% of 2013 graduates who responded to our post-graduation survey were gainfully employed, enrolled in grad school, working as volunteers or enlisted in the military – within six months of graduation.

At UST you live and learn on a beautiful riverside campus in a lovely neighborhood, just minutes from the downtowns of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Not to mention major arts and culture, food and entertainment. A free bus connects our St. Paul campus to our downtown Minneapolis campus.

Everything at St. Thomas begins and ends with academics. You’ll get a wide-ranging liberal arts education with an ethical base – balanced with nuts-and-bolts, career-focused professional preparation.  There are 90 majors and 60 minors from which to choose and all classes are all taught by faculty, 92% of whom hold the terminal degree in their field.

Alumni network

From Fortune 500 CEOs to polar explorers to pro athletes to research scientists to best-selling authors, St. Thomas grads have gone on to careers and lives as wide-ranging and rich as their UST educations themselves. Once you graduate you really can go anywhere and chances are a UST grad will help point the way. We have an alumni network of 97,000 who are active, connected and proud of their St. Thomas degrees.

There is a wide variety of campus housing options, including seven residence halls and six apartment-style accommodations. Whether you live on- or off campus, getting involved is easy and fun. You’ll experience two new facilities: Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex and Anderson Student Center. Going far beyond a typical college “gym” and “student union,” these facilities offer everything from a wicked-fast pool to a bowling alley and dance studio. Grab a coffee and relax in a gaming lounge after a long day of studying.

St. Thomas is a private, Catholic university that educates students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely and work skillfully to advance the common good. You will join a welcoming learning community that operates on knowledge, faith, trust and service.
