When asked what one phrase best describes the Elementary Education major at St. Thomas, a faculty member replied "fulfilling."

What are recent grads doing now?

Several of our December 2012 graduates were offered teaching positions or long-term substitute teaching positions.  Despite the slow economy our graduates continue to be sought after for teaching positions.

Faculty Involvement

Faculty members in our department advise students, serve on department and university committees, volunteer in their local schools, conduct research, write articles and books, give presentations, and provide leadership in state and national organizations as well as assist other universities in meeting accreditation standards.

Study Abroad Opportunities

We have a program offered in conjunction with the University of Northern Iowa and provide the opportunity for selected candidates to complete their clinical practice (student teaching) in one of more than 70 countries. We also occasionally provide a study abroad program over J-term specifically for prospective teachers. UMAIE has an elective course about schools and families in England. In addition, many of our students study abroad for their theology core course or courses related to their second major.
