Am I an international student?

St. Thomas considers you an "international student" if you intend to study at St. Thomas under a "nonimmigrant" visa status.

Please note:  The following people are not considered "international students:"
    • U.S. citizens
    • Permanent U.S. residents ("green card" holders)
    • Asylees and refugees
    • People whose current immigration status is undocumented
How do I apply?

Undergraduate Applicants:

To apply for admission, complete the online application and submit all of the items listed in our application checklist.

Graduate Applicants:

Contact the department to which you are applying.  Each program has specific application requirements, so it is best to talk directly with the department.

When is my application due?

Undergraduate:

To ensure an accurate and timely process, we would advise international students to begin the admission process at least one year prior to the time they wish to enter the University.

Graduate:

At St. Thomas each graduate program sets its own admission deadlines. It is very important that you check the application deadlines and requirements of the program to which you are applying because those must be followed.

Overall, to ensure an accurate and timely process, we would advise international students to begin the admission process at least one year prior to the time they wish to enter the university.

Do you offer conditional admission?

Undergraduate:

The admissions committee may offer conditional admission to applicants who submit the items required for application review and who meet St. Thomas's academic requirements.

Graduate:

Please contact your program directly to find out if conditional admission is offered.

Can I take a tour of campus?

Undergraduate:

International students currently in the United States and interested in an undergraduate degree can make a campus visit to St. Thomas.

Campus visits can include a tour of campus, lunch with a current St. Thomas student, attending a class, meeting with a professor, and meeting with a member of the International Recruiting and Admissions staff.

To schedule a visit, please contact us at least a week before you intend to visit.

Graduate:

If you are interested in a graduate program at St. Thomas, please contact the graduate program to set up a visit.

Abroad:

International students who are out of the United States can take a virtual tour online or wait to schedule a tour until they are in the United States.
