Before You Leave Home

A few tips from our bigger Before You Leave Home list

1. Sign up for a Friendship Family.

A friendship family will help you experience American culture and feel at home at St. Thomas.  A friendship family might show you around St. Paul (e.g. where to shop), help you move in, or invite you over for family dinners, holidays, or other social activities.

As soon as you find out who your Friendship Family is, introduce yourself by email and give them your contact information.  You may also want to email them your arrival date and time.

2. Contact your new roommates.

Your room assignment contains your roommates' names and contact information.
We recommend talking about all areas including academics, sleep, expectations, conflict resolution, guests and anything else that is important to you in living with someone.

3. Email us your arrival date and time.

Book your flight. Plan to land Monday, August 26 in the morning or early afternoon.

4. Set up your St. Thomas email account so you will be able to use computers on campus right away.
    
5. If you will arrive very late at night, consider booking a hotel room for a comfortable first night.

When You Arrive

Move-In Day is Monday, August 26.

1. Go to the Koch Commons Info Desk to pick up your room key.  (Map)
    
2. Tell the Info Desk attendant your name.  Say that you are here to check in and retrieve your room key.
    
3. Make sure that your welcome packet includes a room key and temporary residence hall access card.
    
4. Tell the Info Desk attendant if you need bed linens for your first night.
    
5. Ask the Info Desk attendant to draw you the best path to your residence hall on a campus map.
    
6. Bring your bags to your residence hall.
    
7. Find your room.
    
8. Bring your bags inside.
    
9. Relax.  You've earned it!
