The NYSP daily schedule includes four, one-hour periods consisting of two academic and two athletic sessions. The academic classes include age specific mathematics, reading, college access, and empowerment (emotional regulation). The math and reading classes are taught by teachers and use Minnesota approved curriculum. The athletic curriculum is overseen by a licensed Phys. Ed instructor and focuses on introducing gender neutral life-long sports to participants.
The NYSP staff includes licensed instructors, behavioral specialists, volunteer athletic based groups, UST graduate school student teachers, community volunteers, and administrative staff. The NYSP also has a registered school nurse on site during the program.
Students participating in the NYSP also receive breakfast and lunch free of charge.
The NYSP is one of multiple programs that occur under the 7-week summer session housed under the UST Center for Academics and Sports. The CAAP programs, World Culture Camp, English Language Learners Program, and the High School Leadership Program will be running concurrently with NYSP.
