About the Cultural, Athletic & Academic Program
As a result of the positive NYSP reputation and to best meet the community’s needs, the NYSP at the University of St. Thomas has expanded its programming to create the Cultural, Academic, and Athletic Program (CAAP) to reach even more youth. NYSP, then under the direction of Mark Ahrens, has partnered with Steve Severance, St. Paul Public Schools , and the east metro suburban public schools to establish the CAAP each summer.
As part of the NYSP, all of CAAP’s academic and athletic activities are held on the University of St. Thomas’ St. Paul campus, affording students the use of college classrooms, science laboratories and athletic facilities, and exposure to the broader campus community. Curriculum and staffing is developed in close partnership and oversight with the St. Paul and Minneapolis School Districts, as well as the East Metro Integration District and the University of St. Thomas, to ensure academic standards.
New during the summer of 2010, was our implementation of the World Culture Program (WCP) (Formerly titled, "World Language Camp") and the English Language Learner's Program (ELP). Both programs are open to the students in St. Paul public schools, as well as those who reside in the east metro suburban districts.
