What are recent graduates doing now?

One of our recent graduates is working for an immersion school and wants to pursue a graduate degree in education.

What opportunities are there to bolster my resume while I'm in the program?

Internships. German students have interned at a local German immersion school. IES can organize internships for students overseas while they are studying abroad. The Minnesota chapter of the German American Chamber of Commerce and the Germanic American Institute also can help students find internship opportunities.

Study abroad. We have a direct exchange program with the Universities of Trier and Paderborn in Germany. However, many of the students participate in IES programs. We encourage all of our majors to spend at least one semester in a German-speaking country to gain proficiency and fluency and first-hand experience of the culture they are studying.

Faculty at work

We have our individual research agendas in German philosophy and 20th-century German literature respectively. In addition, my colleague has established and maintained a German cultural Web site, and I am very involved with the continuing education of German teachers. Both of us are active in the Germanic American Institute and professional organizations.
