When asked what one word best describes the entrepreneurship major at St. Thomas, a faculty member replied, “flexible.”
Can entrepreneurship really be taught or are the skills needed to succeed innate?
An entrepreneurship faculty member responds: “We teach people with entrepreneurial ideas and attitudes how they can change those ideas into a business reality. Our courses give people the skills and the courage to move forward, to create their own business or to work with other entrepreneurs.”

Other graduates are employed at General Mills, 3M and many small businesses. Entrepreneurship can be about starting your own business, but many of our graduates bring their entrepreneurial attitudes and skills to other organizations. This field of study is a highly integrative way to learn about business, and our graduates continue to demonstrate their broad-based understanding of what makes businesses successful.
Internships. Many start-ups and small businesses are looking for students to help them out and learn about running their business.
Study abroad. The undergraduate business program has a London Business Semester for business majors in their junior year in which many entrepreneurship students take part. Other students choose to study in programs in more than 40 countries all over the world. Spain, Italy and Australia are popular destinations for entrepreneurship majors.
Many of our graduates use our faculty as business advisers and mentors long after graduation. One of the principles of successful entrepreneurship is networking, and our students and faculty do a great job helping each other to advance in the work force.
