New Student Checklist

As a new student, we realize you are trying to take in a lot of information about life at UST. The following checklist will assist you with remembering some key things to be sure to accomplish during the first few weeks of the semester.

  • Email: St. Thomas communicates with students quite extensively via email. Make sure you check your St. Thomas email account at least once a week! To set up your account, click here.
  • Campus Mailbox: Stop by the post office in the lower level of Murray-Herrick Campus Center to get your mailbox assignment and combination.
  • Health Form Requirements: All undergraduates are required to have immunization records on file. All undergraduate students registered for 12 or more credits are also required to demonstrate health insurance coverage. And, all student athletes are required (all other students recommended) to have a health history form on file. All three of these requirements can be met by entering information via Murphy Online. Once you login, click on "Student Services & Financial Aid," and then "Student Health Menu." If you have questions call 651.962.6750. You can also download the form here.
  • Computer Competency: Take the basic skills competency test online or visit one of the three computer labs on campus. Visit O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library to complete a library workshop (if you are taking English 111 or 190 this may be completed during class). Both activities should be done during your first semester on campus! For more information see the Computer Competency webpage.
  • Foreign Language Placement: If you feel you have enough foreign language background to test into a higher level or test out of the requirement completely, contact the Modern and Classical Languages department at 651.962.5150.
  • Math Placement: To determine which math course is appropriate for you, contact or stop by the Math Resource Center (MaRC) to schedule an exam (651.962.5540, O'Shaugnessy Science Hall, Room 235). Practice test problems are available online;click here.

  • Check with Financial Aid. If you are receiving a Minnesota State Grant there are maximum age and credit limitations - verify that your financial aid will cover your St. Thomas education!
