Art
History
The
art history program offers a comprehensive, chronological and geographical
exploration of the arts and architecture of the western and non-western
worlds. Courses include an emphasis upon the critical evaluation and analysis
of works of art, and exploration of the cultural, social, political, and
religious contexts behind the arts, and an examination of the broader
relationships between different arts and cultures.

Thoughts
on an Art History Major from Current and Past Students

When
I declared my minor in Art History I never dreamed I would become
the Assistant Curator of an extraordinary corporate art collection.
My minors in Art History and Theology, along with my major in English,
allowed me to
explore and write about topics that I simply loved. Upon graduation,
with the help of an art history professor, I was able to search for
and land a dream job in the arts which combined all three of my fields
of study. Now I study, write about, and care for tangible pieces of
art history. Works of
religious art that range from 50-500 years old pass through my hands
while my mind races with the knowledge I gained in UST's Art History
program. This fall I will begin my graduate studies at UST in the
Art History department while I continue to work in the Thrivent Financial
Collection of Religious Art, both of which are possible because of
my minor in Art History from UST. |

I
chose Art History because it combines my interest in both the visual
arts and world history. My research examines all aspects of
life including the social, economic, and artistic environment of a
period in time. |
