New Courses that meet the Core Curriculum for Summer/Fall 08

2007-2008 Pre-Major Advising Handbook (Adobe Acrobat)             The Pre-Major Advisor Handbook has been developed to assist you in your role as an advisor. It has been designed to serve both as a reference during advising sessions as well as a resource containing other pertinent information regarding your role as an advisor.

Major Field Guide (Adobe Acrobat)                                                The following major field guide sheets for the 2006-2008 catalog are intended to assist you with advising a student on appropriate course selection for an intended
major field of study.

First Year Advising Appointment Record (Adobe Acrobat)                 This worksheet helps you to outline your advising meetings with your first year advisees and provides organized space to keep records of your meetings.                        

Trigger Questions to facilitate your conversations with advisees during advising meetings.

Course Planning Sheet (Adobe Acrobat)
This worksheet lists core curriculum requirements (2006 - 2008 Catalog) and all the possible classes that fulfill the requirements, with boxes for students to check off as the requirement is completed.

Note: If a student took English 190 they need to take a 200 or 300 level English course to complete the Literature and Writing requirement. Please advise students to consult the catalog when choosing this second course, as not all of them will fulfill the requirement.

Four Year Planning Sheet (Adobe Acrobat)
This worksheet helps plan out each semester of classes a student needs until graduation.

Practice Schedule (Adobe Acrobat)
This worksheet lists all the possible course times at St. Thomas and is useful in planning out classes.

Language/Culture Core Area Waiver information (Adobe Acrobat)       If you are working with a student who is proficient in another language and culture they may be eligible for a waiver of the foreign language core requirement.  Please refer to this document for the process that should be started during the student's first semester at St. Thomas.  If you have questions please contact the Department of Modern and Classical Languages at 651-962-5150. 

Pre-Health Career Advising Handbook (Adobe Acrobat)                    This is a resource book to help advisors who are working with students that are interested in a health profession.  You can also visit the Health Professions website for more updates and other information.

Department Chairs 2007-08

Do you have students that are missing class or are not performing well? Refer the student to Academic Counseling and a counselor will try to contact the student and get them back in class or get them the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. To report a student as MIA call (962.6300) or email the counselor with the following information:

  • Student name (with middle initial or ID number)
  • Issue (skipping class, needs help with writing, etc)
  • Resolution you would like to see (student should withdraw, referral, etc).
