Kimberly Schumann

Responsibilities

My role as director of the Enhancement Program is to assure the university's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, federal laws that protect people with disabilities from discrimination. I oversee the provisions of accommodations to students with disabilities to be sure that they have equal access to all university courses, programs, activities, and facilities. I am a liason between students and faculty/staff to arrange accommodations for students. I also advise students regarding any issue related to their disability.

Education
M.S. in Counseling and Student Affairs - 1997 at Minnesota State University Moorhead
B.A. in Psychology - 1995 at Minnesota State University Moorhead

How did I get here?

While an undergraduate, I worked part time in a group home for developmentally disabled adults. I've also worked as a job coach for adults with developmental disabilities. As a graduate student, I was an intern in the Personal Counseling Center at Minnesota State University Moorhead for the 1996-97 academic year while completing my master's degree. I provided academic, career, and personal counseling to students. I also taught an academic skills course. After graduating in the spring of 1997, I began the job search, and was hired at St. Thomas in the Enhancement Program in November of 1997. I began as a learning disability specialist, then became the Associate Director, and now I am the director.

Interests

My interests include volunteering, spending time with my family and friends, traveling, and reading.
