Math Placement Exam Information

ISpring 2012 Math Placement Exam Information

 

During spring semester 2012, the mathematics placement exam will be offered on Thursdays at noon and on Fridays at 2:00 PM in OSS 225 (except on University holidays).  No appointment is necessary; if you need to take an exam, just arrive at OSS 225 on time, bringing your student ID, a calculator, and a pencil.

 Students are allowed to take the test once each semester.

There are three different exams, for students in different situations.  They are:

Calculus Placement

Students wanting to take MATH 113: Calculus I with an ACT Math score of less than 26 must take the calculus placement exam. The exam consists of two required parts.  Part I assesses algebra skills, including logarithms and quadratic equations with 25 questions and a time limit of 30 minutes.  Part II assesses knowledge of functions and trigonometry with 25 questions and a time limit of 30 minutes.

Business Calc./ Calc. with Review

Students wanting to take MATH 111: Business Calculus with an ACT Math score of less than 24, or students wanting to take MATH 108: Calc with Review I with an ACT Math score of less than 22 must take this placement exam. The exam consists of 32 questions and a time limit of 45 minutes to assess knowledge of functions and algebra.

Finite Math/Mathematical Sampler

Students wanting to take MATH 101 Finite Mathematics or MATH 100 Mathematical Sampler with an ACT Math score of less than 20 must take the placement exam. The exam consists of 32 questions with a time limit of 40 minutes and assesses knowledge of equations and number properties.

Results from the exam are available within 2 business days of taking the exam.
