The Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association has awarded Pam Abbate with the Judge Earl R. Larson Award, which recognizes students who demonstrate the potential for future high achievement as a member of the federal bar. One 3L at each of the four law schools in the Twin Cities is selected to receive such an award, with each school’s award named in honor of a different person who has contributed significantly to the federal legal system in Minnesota. A committee comprised of St. Thomas School of Law faculty chose Abbate to receive the $2,000 award. Federal Judge John R. Tunheim presented Abbate with the award at a reception hosted by the Federal Bar Association in April. A number of federal judges and the Federal Bar Association board were also on hand at the reception to honor Abbate and the other students at Hamline University’s Klas Center.
Abbate, who worked at the U.S. Attorney’s Office from May 2007-February 2008, is currently studying for the Minnesota Bar Examination. She plans on joining Fredrikson & Byron’s litigation department in January 2010.
The Minnesota Chapter of the Federal Bar Association has recognized outstanding achievement by law students from the local law schools for over 20 years. The award program furthers its mission of encouraging and maintaining high standards of learning and competence in the legal profession.
