We’ve all heard it before: Networking is the single most effective strategy for getting a job as a law clerk or a lawyer. But what is it and how do you do it? In this workshop, we will talk about the wide variety of activities that are considered networking (even though you might not think of them), we’ll help you figure out what types of activities might best suit your strengths and personality, we might even engage in some exercises so you can practice types of networking - giving you concrete tools you can use the next time you find yourself in one of those cocktail party situations. This workshop will be student driven, i.e., we will address whatever is the most useful to those who show up! February 7, 2012 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in MSL 321. Please RSVP in Symplicity.

How Do I Find Summer Funding??
Outside of MJF clerkships, one of the most common ways to get paid to do public interest work over the summer is a two step process. After you get an offer from a public interest agency or government office, you apply to a funding source. This program will cover different sources for funding and how to apply to get such funding. March 6, 2012 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in MSL 244. Please RSVP in Symplicity.
This program will highlight financial assistance available for students pursuing careers in public interest and some government jobs as well. Join us to hear about these options aimed at helping students pursuing careers in public interest and government work alleviate educational debt. March 13, 2012 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in MSL 244. Graduation is fast approaching, and many of you will have questions about life after UST. CPD and Scott Swanson are teaming up to offer this fantastic program on managing your post-graduate responsibilities. If you're thinking about any of these questions:
- How do I balance finding a job and studying for the bar?
- How is a post-graduate job search different from past summer job searches I've done?
- When do people typically get post graduated jobs? Before the bar? After they are licensed?
- What tips for navigating this process do recent UST graduates have for me?
... then this program is for you! April 5, 2012 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in MSL 244. Please RSVP in Symplicity.
Clerking with a federal judge is one of the best ways to start your legal career regardless of what type of law you want to practice. Join CPD, the Law Journal and the Board of Advocates for a presentation on federal clerkships. We hope to have several alums who are currently clerking talk about their experience and how they got their clerkships. Professor Vischer, a former clerk, will talk about what judges look for when they hire judicial clerks. Finally, CPD will talk about the nuts and bolts of the federal clerkship process; the details of the application process will be covered at a separate session. This program is aimed primarily at 2Ls who will be applying for federal clerkships that would start after graduation, but all students who are interested in learning more are welcome.
Please note: If you plan to apply for federal clerkships but cannot attend the session, please pick up the materials after the event and let CPD know that you plan to apply. April 23, 2012 at 12:30-1:30 p.m. in MSL 244. Please RSVP in Symplicity.
