A Muslim Catholic Dialogue on Faith and Reason

March 18, 2009, 7:30 p.m. O'Shaughnessy Educational Center (OEC) auditorium, St. Paul Campus, University of St. Thomas

Comments made by Pope Benedict XVI at Regensburg in September 2006 on the subject of faith and reason were met with violence by some, thoughtful statements by others, and ultimately an ongoing dialogue between representatives of the Islamic faith and the Vatican.

What is at the heart of this matter that stirs passions and intellects?  What is the relationship of faith and reason in Catholicism and in Islam?

Two renowned speakers discussed this subject of fundamental importance in today’s world before an audience of over two hundred:

 • His Excellency Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Titular Archbishop of Canosa,  Apostolic Nuncio, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations.

                                     • Ibrahim Kalin, Professor of Islamic history and culture, Georgetown University, scholar of Islamic philosophy, founding-director of the SETA Foundation, Ankara, Turkey, planner and participant in initial meeting of Catholic-Muslim Forum, Vatican City, Nov., 2008.
