Message from the A.D.

The University of St. Thomas has a rich history of intercollegiate athletics, providing opportunities for young men and women to compete over the last 100 years. These athletes have achieved remarkable success on the conference and national levels and have lived up to the high standards and tradition of excellence established by past athletes.

I am proud of our record and excited by our yearlong celebration of a century of athletics at St. Thomas. I invite you to join me by participating in our events, attending our games and wearing the purple and gray. Go Tommies!

St. Thomas celebrates 100 years of athletics!

St. Thomas celebrated 100 years of intercollegiate athletics in 2003-2004 with a series of activities and events.

In the past 15 months, St. Thomas:

  • created a 100-year athletics web site which has several classic photos and lists all-time national champions, All-Americans and NCAA team champions;
  • unveiled new national championship team banners and MIAC championship banners in Schoenecker Arena;
  • held golf tournaments and/or alumni gatherings for each varsity sport;
  • hosted a special Homecoming 2003 reception;
  • produced a commemorative 22-minute DVD on St. Thomas' athletic history with old film footage, photos and recent interviews with many central figures;
  • produced a 100-year timeline brochure with photos and key milestones;
  • created special 100-year memorabilia, including a Tommie bobble head doll, the DVD, a poster, and hats (all still available for purchase);
  • hosted Star Tribune sports columnist and KSTP Radio personality Patrick Reusse for the Alumni Association's May First Friday luncheon event;
  • and introduced its new UST Athletic Association (USTAA), a club for alumni, parents and friends to support St. Thomas athletics.
