Team Achievements

One measure of the strength and tradition of St. Thomas athletics are the numerous team accomplishments in its first century.

Consider that Tommie teams:

• have won an MIAC-best 10 NCAA Division III team championships—all in the last 21 seasons—along with eight NCAA team runner-up placing

• are among a select group nationally to have NCAA top-two team finishes in eight different sports. The Tommies have captured team titles in men's and women's cross country, men's indoor track, women's basketball, baseball, softball and also have runner-up placings in men's hockey and women's track.

• swept men's and women's NCAA team championships on the same day—twice—with NCAA women's and men's cross country titles in 1984 and 1986

• have won 301 MIAC team championships (men's or women's regular or post-season)—more than any other conference foe—with at least one title in 22 of the 23 varsity sports in which they've competed

• have placed in the top-40 nationally in each of the nine years of the Directors Cup national all-sport program

• have recorded the best Directors Cup finish of any Minnesota institution (fourth, 1999-2003)

• have posted more than 80 top-five national team finishes

• have built an array of impressive streaks for home-court and conference victories, consecutive NCAA appearances and consecutive conference championships.

• are the lone MIAC institution to play in both the men's and women's basketball Final Fours

• are the lone MIAC team to play in an NCAA hockey championship game

• are the lone MIAC institution to play in both the baseball and softball College World Series and to win NCAA team championships in both sports
